Hosted in partnership with the City of Long Branch Recreation Department and Director Carl Jennings, NJGAKAD hosts a New Jersey Association of USA Boxing-sanctioned youth boxing fundraising match to showcase talent of exceptional amateur boxers from the age of eight.
Join us at the Great Lawn (located on Ocean Avenue between Ocean Place Hotel and Rooney’s) at 1:00 p.m. July 9 (rain date July 10) and help us raise funds for at-risk youth in the New Jersey community . Boxing fans, community supporters and families will come together to watch more than ten thrilling championship fights and cheer on local New Jersey Olympic amateur boxers.
Children in the program receive boxing training at legendary Gleason’s Gym Jersey Shore, tutoring for schoolwork, and learn relevant life skills through travel and field trips to become life champions.
With a track record of creating national boxing champions through programs she built from the ground up, two-time Ringside World Champion, National Golden Glove Champion and NJ Martial Arts Kickboxing Champion, Jackie Atkins transforms coaching experiences into tremendous successes.
“Children are what you think of them, and we believe all of our children are capable of achieving great things,” said NJGAKAD Founder Jackie Atkins. “We are honored to have such a committed team that believes our young people are worth fighting for and are ready to invest. No other investment pays off like investing in our kids.”
Despite battling adversity over the past year, NJGAKAD has continued to support our youth and their families without disruption of services. Kids stayed engaged virtually, those who needed virtual assistance received it, and even safe drive-in tours, often with meals for their beloved coach’s families, became commonplace. Safety and health protocols were immediately put in place in accordance with state mandates.
Women are warriors who wear many hats and “gloves” in life. Our “Girls in Gloves” program, born in 2019, aims to teach young women about “self”, including self-defense, self-esteem, self-confidence, self-awareness, empowerment, self-control and most importantly, self-love. The program has caught the attention of neighboring towns in New Jersey, and the mayor of Atlantic City recently joined the program year.
According to national statistics, three to four students – out of ten high school students – do not meet the criteria to graduate from high school. NJGAKAD boasts a 100% pass rate as each participant graduates from high school right from the start of the program. Participants have attended and graduated from college or enlisted to join our armed forces. In 2021, all young people in the college have achieved an academic average of 85% or more while improving their attendance thanks to mentors who invest in this program and provide advice to young people.
