Retired former boxing champ Timothy Bradley has no problem with YouTube star Jake Paul getting into his sport.
Bradley believes Paul was unfairly criticized throughout the process of starting his fighting career. Bradley, who went 33-2-1 and fought some of the biggest names of his time such as Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Márquez and others, said Paul didn’t do anything different from any promising boxer .
Paul has been criticized by many for the level of opposition he has faced in his young career, but Bradley has no problem pulling back the curtain and letting the public know how it normally is.
“You have to understand that when you’re fighting guys who are coming in, you’re usually fighting guys who are less than you are,” Bradley told Fight Hub TV. “I’ve seen professional fighters, top prospects fight MMA guys, retired MMA guys. I saw that. This is how you build your case.
“The fact that he did that, everyone gave him a bad name for that. Now he picks a guy in Rahman’s son who has experience, he’s been in the sport all his life because of his dad. That says a lot about him. »
Paul is currently undefeated in boxing at 5-0, with victories over official MMA champions Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. And he continues to publicly feud with UFC President Dana White over fighters’ pay, as well as calling for fights with UFC stars Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.
Paul has an upcoming fight against Hasim Rahman Jr. on August 6 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Bradley respects Paul and props him up to not only take the craft seriously, but to help women’s boxing reach new heights with his promotion.
“I like his bustle,” Bradley said. “The fact that he became a YouTuber and managed to do that and decided he had a passion for boxing, it’s not his fault. It’s not his fault, brother. To me, he’s smart. I think it’s a smart move. … We give him a bad name, but I don’t. I appreciate him.
