Jose Uzcategui tests positive for banned substance, withdrawn from November 13 fight with David Benavidez boxing news 24

Through Matt Lieberman: Former IBF super middleweight champion Jose Uzcategui tested positive for the banned substance rEPO and was removed from his November 13 headlining fight against David Benavidez on SHOWTIME at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

First boxing champions [PBC] removed Uzcategui from the map without waiting for its B sample to be tested, according to Mike Coppinger.

Benavidez (24-0, 21 KOs) will remain in the main event, and a replacement opponent is wanted to replace him. It won’t be easy to find a quality fighter who’s ready to step on the board against a talent like 24-year-old former WBC two-time super middleweight champion Benavidez.

There’s not much time to find a quality replacement opponent in time for the November 13 card. It wouldn’t be surprising if Benavidez’s replacement opponent is in the 160 or 175 pound divisions.

This is a major missed opportunity for Uzcategui, as the fight with Benavidez was an IBF / WBC super middleweight title eliminator with the winner being mandatory for winner Canelo Alvarez against Caleb Plant.

There is potentially a lot of money to be made for the winner of the 168-pound IBF / WBC title eliminator if Canelo wins his fight with Plant and he doesn’t quit.

Coppinger reports the news of Uzcategui, 30, VADA test positive for the banned substance rEPO. The positive test for Venezuelan Uzcategui (31-4, 26 KOs) came on October 27.

Uzcategui was an odd choice from day one to be picked as the opponent to fight Benavidez in the 168 lb IBF & WBC title eliminator.

With two losses in his last five fights, Uzcategui hasn’t rated to fight in a title eliminator unless qualifying is for someone who has recently been repeatedly beaten. There are arguably more deserving contenders in the IBF and WBC rankings than Uzcategui.

One of these suitors would be a great replacement for Benavidez:

  • Carlos gongora
  • Daniel Jacobs
  • David Lemieux
  • Aidos Yerbossynuly
  • Vladimir Shishkin
  • Jesse hart
  • Callum smith
  • Craig richards

“Sources: Jose Uzcategui tested positive for the performance enhancing substance rEPO on October 27 – a VADA test – and was withdrawn from the November 13 fight with David Benavidez on Showtime. It was the A sample, but PBC didn’t wait to pull it out of the fight, ”@MikeCoppinger said.

“PBC are looking for a new opponent for Benavidez, who will continue to headline Showtime Championship Boxing on November 13th. PBC didn’t even try to fight or wait for the B sample. Can you watch that. “
