Frodo Galloped To King George Glory 2020 For Bryony Frost And Paul Nicholls

Bryony Frost continues his back-to-back wins in the holiday season £ 250,000 race aboard Frodo.

The tough artist is one of ten entries for the pursuit of King George VI of Ladbrokes on Boxing Day.

Priced 5-1 with sponsors, Frodo was one of the underdogs in last year’s renewal, but he bravely pushed Waiting Patiently back from the front.

His teammate Clan Des Obeaux, who lines up again on Sunday, finished third in search of a back-to-back hat-trick.

The duo, joined by a third rider trained by Paul Nicholls, Saint Calvados, are part of the opposition to Minella Indo, winner of the 2021 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Chantry House, a 9-2 shot, also won the March reunion and arrives in Kempton after beating only one rival on his reappearance.

“If you think you have a King George horse, you hope to progress to a Gold Cup,” said trainer Nicky Henderson.

“He’s a very laid back horse, which I think is in his favor, and I’m not worried that he’s not fast enough.”

Main contenders

The Clan Des Obeaux, partly owned by Sir Alex Ferguson, is one of 15 horses to have won the race more than once.

He finished last season on a high, beating two-time Gold Cup winner Al Boom Photo at Punchestown after playing a hat-trick at Aintree for the Man United legend.

Although the Hunter isn’t a fan of Cheltenham, where Minella Indo reigned supreme in the feature film in March.

He has since finished behind Frodo at Down Royal – and has to prove his effectiveness in this type of race away from Prestbury Park.

Willie Mullins’ Irish raider Asterion Forlonge is a player if he can tidy his jumps, while two-time Grade 1 winner Chantry House has the same rating and has untapped potential.
