Rafael Fiziev tries to make sense of odd interaction with Conor McGregor after training invite

Rafael Fiziev and Conor McGregor were very friendly during a recent interaction on Twitter, but unsurprisingly things got a bit out of hand quickly.

After encountering a culmination of Fiziev’s incredible headbutt dodging abilities in Muay Thai, McGregor was both appreciative and critical. Saying; “That’s awesome. Change the roundhouse to an ax kick. Roundhouse in and ax kick and that defense eats the full heel. I’m telling you. If their reaction to a high kick is this, use the ax .

A Muay Thai fighter for the first half of his combat sports career, Fiziev found the suggestion not too realistic. He was open to seeing it, however, and invited “The Notorious” to come show him.

McGregor remained insistent on technique but was ultimately willing to accept Fiziev on his offer. So things were going great for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) pair of light forwards…until they weren’t.

Bouncing on the respectful nature of the response, Fiziev kept the same energy. McGregor then threw a curve ball comparing himself to golfing legend, Tiger Woods.

“No problem mate, sound,” McGregor said. “Think of me as Tiger Woods with a 12 iron and your nose as a golf ball. And think of me sprinting for it with a running kick and f—k your little back bend. You little elbow, nobody b—ch. Oh you bend over, wow, that’s awesome. Congratulations buddy haha.

Despite the Irishman’s brash nature, it still felt like a random deflection. As McGregor continues to heal from his broken leg suffered against Dustin Poirier in July 2021, Fiziev is currently preparing for his first UFC main event this weekend (Saturday July 9, 2022) against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Vegas. 58.

When asked about the interaction during the UFC Vegas 58 media day (h/t John Morgan), Fiziev tried to make sense of it all.

“He started off by saying ‘respect,’ but you know, I’m sure I’m respected by everyone, and I also respect Conor’s hard work for this company,” Fiziev said. “Nobody does it like him. But before sleeping at night, he drinks first. Maybe he smokes and then maybe he likes (sniffles and wipes his finger under his nose). Enough so he might have one last drink of Proper Twelve [Irish Whiskey]. A little more. Oh, he picks up his phone, he starts talking shit, you know.
